Song lyrics aren't usually my jam when it comes to inspiration, but the first line of "Georgia" by Vance Joy lined up perfectly with life last week. One morning I got a text from Jake saying how proud he was of all that I've accomplished in the last year with my freelance work. I said, "It's so many small accomplishments it doesn't feel like much," to which he replied "Well, that's what growth is." -- Jake, dropping knowledge bombs like it's nothing! It's true though, there's a reason people take progress photos each week when they're working to change their bodies; change is difficult to notice day to day. The last two years my New Years resolutions have been focused on expanding my freelance work. I wish I had taken snapshots of my progress to remind me that the weekends spent editing or writing all added up to big accomplishments. The reason those lyrics resonated with me is I was thinking about how I'd been able to reach some of my goals for my professional life and it all comes down to being BOLD. Nobody has outright told me I'm a bold person, but it's what I aspire to be. Bold to me means creating my own opportunities and not allowing websites like Craigslist dictate my future. We get so stuck in the way "everyone does _______" that we don't often do it our own way. Tonight I'm finishing a pitch that is a little off the wall, I've thought about ditching it several times but thankfully...bold just won't let me.
