Hood River, Oregon is a town most people drive right through. There are so many reasons to stop and stay though. When the wind is blowing, the Columbia River Gorge is dotted with kites, in all the colors of the rainbow. There were places offering kiteboarding lessons but I had fun just watching them from the shore. We stayed in this camper we found through Airbnb and it didn't disappoint.
What I like most about Hood River is the relaxed vibe, nobody seems in a hurry to get anywhere. Maybe it was because I had no plans the entire time, but it seemed like the town's slow pace helped create those rare moments when you appreciate the warmth of the sun on your face or the way a breeze feels. The best moments of the trip went undocumented, I guess because they were just that good! If you're headed to Hood River anytime soon, here's my suggestions:
pizza + beer @ double mountain
coffee @ stoked roasters
Burger + beer + BACON-WRAPPED DATES @ PFRIEM
whiskey + tacos @ camp 1805
Next time I'm there for more than 24-hrs I plan to go hiking, take a ride on the Mount Hood Railroad, tour Full Sail Brewing Co., hit up the wineries and search out the best breakfast in town.
Have you ever been to Hood River? Any places I should go next time?
