First things first, I am not a fashion blogger or even remotely fashionable. Not fishing for compliments - that's just the honest truth, now let's move on. I wanted to write about Le Tote because it's an amazing clothing subscription company any woman can benefit from.
Le Tote in a nutshell is your older sister's closet you can borrow clothes from without getting interrogated later about that mysterious stain [you swear was there before you borrowed it]. If you don't have a sister then let me just tell you this, sister's clothes are like magnets for anything you don't want on them: wine, salsa, cheese, marker...the list could go on forever. Le Tote offers insurance on their clothes for $5/month, so no matter what you get into -- you won't get in trouble.
A subscription to Le Tote is $49/month or $54/month if you add insurance. For that, you get a couple different pieces of clothing and a few accessories, but here's the cool part, unlike a lot of clothing subscriptions, Le Tote lets you ship your box back as many times as you want [they give you a bag with a prepaid shipping label] and they'll send you another box. You can keep it as long as you want, there's no return dates to keep up with.
The first thing people ask me is, 'So you're just paying to borrow clothes, you don't get to keep them?'. The answer is. 'Yes, and it's awesome'. For those of you who didn't grow up on hand-me-downs and maybe aren't quite so keen on the idea of sharing clothes with strangers; all the clothing Le Tote sends is in like-new condition, sometimes pieces even come with the tags still on.
It might sound weird to have a constantly rotating closet but for me, the excitement of a new top or dress wears off pretty quickly. Once you buy it and wear it once, it's not as fun to put on again. Before you know it, the brand new top you were obsessed with is buried in the heaping pile of clothes you toss to the ground while complaining about having nothing to wear. If you do want to keep something that comes in your Le Tote, you just keep it! All the items on the site are for sale at discounted prices, if you don't send a piece back, the website will charge your card for it. How much 'say' you have about what you get in your Le Tote just recently changed. Before, one of their stylists would curate your tote based on the items you had in your "closet" which is a selection of things you've "liked" on their website.
Now, they still choose items for your tote, then give you the opportunity to swap them out before they send it. I LOVE THIS FEATURE, especially for the accessories they're sending. With clothes I think it's great to get out of your comfort zone and try something you wouldn't normally pick out yourself, but with jewelry -- I feel like most people know what they like. It's nice to be able to switch out a pair of earrings you know you won't wear with a basic necklace you can wear all week.
The only problems I've had with my subscription have been my own fault; one time I forgot to send back a piece that didn't fit and was promptly charged for it, as I should have been. I e-mailed their customer support and they got right back to me telling me to just send it back with the next tote and they'd refund me. To me, they're doing everything right. If it sounds like something you'd be into, use this link to sign-up and you'll get a $25 credit and full-disclosure, so will I! It's a win-win.
If you know anyone who's expecting, Le Tote just announced they're going to start a maternity collection for $59/month. No longer will moms-to-be have to buy a whole new wardrobe for their 9-month stint being pregnant. This is basically the best idea ever and I wish I had thought of it.
What's your favorite subscription-based service? Any other amazing ones I should know about?
